About
🧠What Do Psychologists Do?
The Australian Psychological Society describes psychologists as professionals trained in the science of how people think, feel, behave, and learn.
At Stepping Stones, our psychologists support children and young people to build emotional wellbeing, social confidence, and academic success. Their work often includes partnering closely with caregivers, schools, and other professionals to ensure each child is supported in a holistic and coordinated way.
🎓 Registered vs Provisional Psychologists
Both Registered and Provisional Psychologists are highly trained professionals — the difference lies in their stage of practice:
Registered Psychologists Have completed a minimum of six years of university study and supervised practice. They hold full registration with AHPRA and can independently provide psychological services.
Provisional Psychologists Have completed their undergraduate and postgraduate university training and are in the final stage of their professional development. They work under the supervision of an experienced, fully Registered Psychologist while completing additional supervised practice hours required for full registration. Provisional Psychologists bring fresh, current knowledge and receive ongoing oversight to ensure high‑quality, evidence‑based care.
At Stepping Stones, both Registered and Provisional Psychologists follow the same ethical standards, use evidence‑based approaches, and work within a supportive, supervised framework to ensure safe and effective services for children and families.
